The Reclaimed Heart Pine Collection

Strength, Heritage, and Timeless Luminosity

Sourced from 19th-century industrial landmarks, our Heart Pine reveals a structural density and vibrant grain that modern timber simply cannot replicate.

Explore the six distinct grades below ↓

Antique Heart Pine flooring offers a timeless beauty, sourced from reclaimed old-growth lumber. It provides a unique character and durability, available in various grades to suit different aesthetic preferences and project needs.

Premium Vertical Grain

Pure Lineage, Vertical Perfection

Our Premium Vertical Grain Heart Pine is the highest grade of reclaimed heart pine flooring we offer, designed for those seeking a clean, formal, and architectural aesthetic. This elite selection is characterized by tight, straight grain lines rather than the typical swirls of flat-sawn planks

Premium Grade

Refined Elegance

Our Premium Grade Heart Pine strikes the perfect balance between refined elegance and authentic timber character. While it maintains a high heartwood requirement for that classic deep-amber glow, this grade allows for occasional small, tight knots and a slightly more expressive grain than our Vertical Grain selection.

Select Grade

Versatile Beauty, Proven Popularity

Our Select Grade is the quintessential choice for those seeking the perfect middle ground between formal elegance and rustic charm. As our most popular offering, it captures the true essence of reclaimed timber by showcasing a balanced mix of natural wood characteristics, including occasional knots and a beautiful variety of grain patterns.

Country Farmhouse Grade

Nature’s Story, Refined Character

Our Country Farmhouse grade is the ideal choice for those who want a floor that feels warm and unapologetically classic. By embracing a beautiful mix of deep, reddish heartwood and lighter, creamy sapwood, this grade offers a high-contrast visual that perfectly captures the “traditional country” aesthetic.

Naily Grade

Honest History, Reclaimed Heritage

Our Naily Grade is a striking tribute to the structural history of 19th-century timber, celebrating the authentic markings that can only come from a century of service. By embracing the frequent nail holes and dark oxidation streaks left behind by original hand-forged or square nails, this flooring offers a rhythmic, textured appearance that is both bold and deeply rooted in the past.

Rustic Cabin Grade

Rugged Beauty, Deeply Charactered

Our Rustic Cabin grade is the ultimate expression of unrefined beauty, offering more natural character and visual diversity than any other heart pine we produce. This grade celebrates the full spectrum of the wood’s history, featuring a vibrant mosaic of deep reddish heartwood contrasted with lighter sapwood, alongside bold ferrous mineral stains and dramatic aging cracks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Antique Heart Pine suitable for high-traffic areas or homes with dogs?

Absolutely. Old-growth reclaimed heart pine is exceptionally dense—far harder than newly harvested pine. While not as hard as some of our other floors it tends to be considerably more durable than new pine.

Yes, solid reclaimed pine offers exceptional stability for radiant heat systems because it has been naturally seasoning for over a century. This historic aging process makes the lumber significantly more resilient and dimensionally consistent than new-growth solid wood.

However, any bespoke integration requires site-specific expertise. Determining whether our specific plank widths and your unique heating system are a perfect architectural match is a critical judgment call that must be made by the onsite architect or professional builder. We have supplied many successful radiant heat projects, but final responsibility for total environmental control—including proper subfloor preparation, humidity monitoring, and heating system temperature regulation—always rests with your specialized installation team

Because every floor is hand-graded and custom-milled to order in our Virginia shop, our standard lead time is typically 4 to 6 weeks. For highly bespoke requests or extremely large architectural volumes, we will provide a specific timeline during your quote.

Freight costs vary depending on the size of your specific order, the exact delivery location, and current carrier fuel surcharges. As a general baseline, you can budget approximately $0.75 per square foot for Mid-Atlantic shipments, and $1.25 per square foot for West Coast deliveries.

Because freight rates fluctuate and every job site is unique, these numbers are strictly ballparks. To get a perfectly accurate shipping rate, we highly recommend calling us or filling out a Quote Request, and our team will calculate the exact logistics for your project.

We pride ourselves on providing firm shipping quotes upfront directly on your Sales Order, and we work hard to ensure there are no “surprise” surcharges after the fact.

On rare occasions, we may need to re-quote a delivery due to unusual circumstances—such as sudden spikes in carrier fuel surcharges or new information regarding your specific delivery site details. If this ever happens, we prioritize complete transparency and will communicate with you immediately so you are always fully informed about your project’s budget.

Our Heart Pine comes from old-growth Longleaf Pine harvested in the 1800s, when these trees grew slowly over centuries and developed an extremely dense, resin-rich heartwood. New-growth pine is harvested from plantation trees in a fraction of that time, producing a softer, less dense board with far less heartwood. The structural density, tight grain, and rich amber color of true antique Heart Pine simply cannot be replicated with modern lumber.

Our Virginia Mill Shop

Human Stewardship. Precision Milling.

While mass production relies on automated sensors to make quick decisions, we still trust the practiced eye of a master grader. At our mill in Staunton, Virginia, we combine a tradition of excellence established in 1997 with high-end modern tooling. Precision milling provides the technical accuracy for our Antique Heart Pine flooring, but our team ensures that every plank is hand-selected to honor its century-old heritage.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for delivering the most beautiful wood in the worldI recently purchased 3/4″, #2 Select heart pine for my home, completed the installation myself and just can’t stop admiring it. I was very pleased with the good service, quality of the product, long lengths and perfectly milled tongue and groove.

Working with your company was certainly a pleasure. It was the easiest task during the construction of our home. Jonas and Raymond were very personable and they went out of their way to help me make my wood selection. There was never any hidden cost or surprises. I would recommend Appalachian Woods to anyone.

Steve was very knowledgeable about the products and understood my complicated staircase project right away. Appalachian Woods is staffed by knowledgeable professionals that are friendly, professional and easy to work with. The quality of products that I received was very high and a perfect match for my projects needs. My flooring and staircase materials looked like they were original to my late 1800’s home, and they would be equally as stunning in a new construction house.
